| 竹子湖位於大屯山、七星山與小觀音山之間的湖田里，海拔約600公尺。竹子湖地區的形成要回溯至35萬年前，由於七星山爆發所噴出的岩漿堵住了山坳的出口，以致於積水無法流出而形成堰塞湖，此即「竹子湖」之名的由來。後來由於湖水的侵蝕作用而切穿了湖緣，積水流出並經過農民的開墾而成農田景觀，才會形成今日有田無湖的景觀。
因為臨近都會生活圈，最近竹子湖內已有多數農家栽植高經濟價值的花卉及盆栽如：海竽、杜鵑、茶花、松柏、梅花、櫻花等，並有著名的海竽花田之名，以11至5月為盛產期。觀光菜園主要培植的蔬菜有高麗菜、大白菜、蕃茄、胡瓜、青辣椒等，產季在每年5至9月，為台北市夏季蔬菜主要產地之一。 春天的竹子湖，由白花海芋織染出大塊的白綠相間素淨之美，偶爾飄來的薄霧，更為這迷人的白花嬌客罩上一層神秘的面紗，擄獲無數賞花客的芳心。「2003竹子湖海芋季」產業文化活動所展現的正是海芋清新脫俗之美，引領遊客深入瞭解竹子湖豐富的人文、生態內涵，並透過活動與海芋接觸，認識、欣賞、喜愛海芋，活動內容有海芋花季開幕、海芋花展，及海芋生態體驗等。觀光海芋園主要位於竹子湖道路兩旁，山路蜿蜓，片片白綠相間的海芋田襯著三兩農舍的悠閒情境，彷彿陶淵明筆下的桃花源再現！ 資訊來源 Welcome to Taipei |
